Medavie EMS Inc. (MEMS) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Inc, a company doing business in Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces as Medavie Blue Cross.

Operating subsidiaries of Medavie EMS include: EMC Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) in Nova Scotia; New Brunswick Emergency Medical Services Inc. (NB EMS) in New Brunswick; Island EMS Inc. (IEMS) in Prince Edward Island; Medavie EMS Ontario Limited (MEMSO); Atlantic Paramedic Academy (APA), a Medavie EMS company is located in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Medavie EMS is an organization that has developed its level of expertise to provide successful solutions in the current challenging climate of emergency health care delivery. Our organization has invested heavily in developing staff and fostering systems while leveraging off our practical experiences, innovation and use of technology, to facilitate problem solving. Medavie EMS has a history of both experience and success in EMS system design, implementation and development for EMS systems within Canada.

EMC was incorporated in 1997 and entered into a long-term performance-based contract with Nova Scotia Emergency Health Services (EHS). EMC has managed the provincial ground ambulance service and the EHS Medical Communications Centre since 1999 and has recently signed a seven year contract with up to 4 years of extensions with the Province of Nova Scotia. The service includes 65 paramedic bases, 150 system vehicles and 1,000 employees dedicated to providing professional care/community commitment.
In the spring of 2007, EMC was awarded a contract to manage the LifeFlight air ambulance service and transitioned the management of that program from EHS in May of 2008. In 2005 and 2006, EMC took on the responsibility to manage the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Medical First Response (MFR) programs on behalf of EHS.
In addition, we have been part of four successful EMS accreditations including accreditation and re-accreditation by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatchers (NAED) and a full accreditation and re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS); a first in Canada.
In November of 2007, EMC was awarded the 2007 Ethics Award for businesses with over 100 employees by the Nova Scotia Better Business Bureau.

In 2007, New Brunswick EMS (NB EMS) signed a long term contract to manage the ambulance service in that province on behalf of Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB), the public company responsible for providing land and air ambulance services throughout New Brunswick. NB EMS commenced service on December 16, 2007.
NB EMS manages a fleet of over 130 ambulances and system vehicles and responds to over 108,000 calls annually.
NB EMS employs and manages approximately 1000 people and has over 50 base locations and 1 Fleet Maintenance Centre in Moncton with a second centre to be built in Fredericton. NB EMS is committed to high-quality pre-hospital care for the people of New Brunswick.

In December of 2005, Medavie EMS submitted a proposal in response to an RFP for an Enhanced Ambulance Service for Prince Edward Island. In January of 2006 MEMS was awarded the contract and subsequently established Island EMS to implement and manage the provincial ambulance system effective April 2006.
IEMS operations includes 6 bases, 16 system vehicles and 97 employees providing high quality care to the public of Prince Edward Island. IEMS paramedics respond to approximately 11,500 calls per year.

On January 1, 2009, Medavie EMS expanded its operations beyond the Maritime Provinces and began delivering ambulance management services to the District Municipality of Muskoka in Ontario.
Medavie EMS Ontario (MEMSO) continues in the tradition of the companies before it, providing efficient and reliable land ambulance services to the residents of Muskoka. MEMSO's operations include 5 bases, 13 system vehicles and 74 employees providing high-quality care. Medavie EMS Ontario responds to approximately 11,000 emergency calls annually.
On December 1, 2008, MEMS acquired the Atlantic Paramedic Academy (APA) in Moncton, New Brunswick.
The APA operates as a division of MEMS and offers Primary Care and Advanced Care Paramedic training programs, as well as other specialty health care training. The APA provides training in both French and English and was recently surveyed and recommended for accreditation for both programs with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
The APA currently has 120 students enrolled in PCP programs in Moncton, Fredericton and Edmundston, New Brunswick.
