Medavie EMS Awarded National Military Training Contract
We are pleased to announce that the Medavie EMS has been awarded a two-year, $2.5 million contract by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) to provide French language Advanced Emergent Care (AEC) training to members of the Department of National Defence (DND). To ensure that DND members remain sufficiently qualified to meet operational requirements, the contract also includes an option to extend the training services by up to three additional one-year periods. Training will take place at the Atlantic Paramedic Academy (APA) in Moncton, NB.
The AEC was developed by the Canadian Forces Health Services to provide Qualification Level 5 Medical Technicians with advanced skills and knowledge to enable them to manage life threatening airway and circulatory emergencies.
Candidates who complete the Qualification Level 5 (AEC) training at the APA may be deployed into a variety of operational settings and static units.
It is anticipated that the first course will begin in May with as many as 32 students. Subsequent courses will take place over the next several years.
Sandy MacQuarrie, Director of the APA, says they are excited about the opportunity to train Canadian Forces personnel. “We are looking forward to working with DND to deliver this targeted training and to supporting our troops.”
The APA is a Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Accredited Paramedic training institution. APA provides Primary Care and Advanced Care Paramedic training for students from across Canada.
